Budget: Old homes can have hidden defects which may require quite substantial work to bring up to an acceptable or code compliant standard. We will work with you to help identify those areas in order to minimise the impact of such unknowns. Style: It’s important that addition and renovation projects respect the style of your home. That’s not to say that the add-on needs to match the existing building exactly. In many cases, it may be historically more sympathetic to the old if the new add-on is carried out in a completely different modern style. That way, the historic building fabric can be easily distinguished from the new addition. In a building that is not particularly historically significant, an add-on in matching style to the old part, will usually give a more cohesive appearance. Lifestyle: Renovating your home should give an end result that satisfies modern lifestyle requirements. Very few people want to live in a museum. So, while the exterior of your old home may be quite traditional, most customers prefer a more contemporary approach for the interior. The home needs to be practical for today’s family. There’s the obvious need for good insulation and considerations such as energy efficiency and lifecycle costs.
